LINGHAM COURT, STOCKWELL, LONDON SW9, UK

One of a number of projects for which MBP have worked with specialist suppliers of light gauge steel panels, volumetric modules and serviced pods to create lightweight superstructures with very high standards of thermal insulation and acoustic separation. Our involvement has variously included advice to architects and clients at concept design stage, detailed design, monitoring of installation works and assistance to main contractors in checking the completed structures. At Lingham Court we were responsible for the structural engineering design of the lightweight, pre-fabricated superstructure.

A project winner in the 2005 Housing Design Awards.
Assessors comments: “Innovative construction met weight limits imposed by London Underground for building over tube (and emergency) tunnels. Prefabricated light gauge steel panels were made off site for both the floors and load bearing walls. To obtain high quality finishes, bathrooms for all units were prefabricated off site as ‘pods’ and lifted fully finished into place.”

Client: Metropolitan Housing Trust
Architect: Pollard Thomas Edwards
